MILLWRIGHT (Non-Exempt)

Summary of Position:

Here are Century, our craft personnel are at the very core of who we are.  A qualified Millwright will Install, dismantle, or move machinery and heavy equipment according to layout plans, blueprints, or other drawings in accordance with all applicable plans, specifications, codes, and industry standards. Work in other crafts at levels appropriate to training and skills as requested by supervision.

Duties and Responsibilities (additional site specific duties may be assigned as required):

  • Insert shims, adjust tension on nuts and bolts, or position parts, using hand tools and measuring instruments, to set specified clearances between moving and stationary parts. 
  • Align machines and equipment, using hoists, jacks, hand tools, squares, rules, micrometers, and plumb bobs. 
  • Assemble machines, and bolt, weld, rivet, or otherwise fasten them to foundation or other structures, using hand tools and power tools.
  • Lay out mounting holes, using measuring instruments, and drill holes with power drill. 
  • Dismantle machines, using hammers, wrenches, crowbars, and other hand tools. 
  • Attach moving parts and subassemblies to basic assembly unit, using hand tools and power tools. 
  • Move machinery and equipment, using hoists, dollies, rollers, and trucks. 
  • Troubleshoot equipment, electrical components, hydraulics, or other mechanical systems.
  • Detect faulty operation of equipment or defective materials and notify supervisors.
  • Follow established job-site safety and regulations and maintain a safe and clean work area.
  • Identify safety hazards you or other employees may be subject to and take all necessary corrective action to eliminate or minimize hazards.

Qualifications:

  • Education (experience may be accepted in lieu of some educational requirements): High School Diploma (or GED or High School Equivalence Certificate) required.  Additional associate’s degree in Construction or Engineer field, trade school or industry certification, highly preferred.
  • Experience: At least 5 years’ experience working in industrial construction with a high level of technical knowledge.
  • Communication Skills: Comprehend documents such as safety rules, operating maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. The ability to understand information, ideas, direction and then be able to perform the task or project discussed. Also, to be able to ask questions to insure you understand the information given.
